GARNER, Sarah Coffman - Putnam

Sarah Catherine Coffman was born near Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana Sept 9, 1852.  She was united in marriage to James E. Garner Oct 4, 1874 and to this union five children were born, all of whom were present at the funeral. They are: Mrs. Blanche P. Hill. Horatia M. Garner, Edith A. Kent, Mary J. Martin and Charles W. Garner.  She, with her family moved near Cottonwood Falls, Chase County, Kansas in December 1898 where they resided until 1900 when they moved to Bowden, Alberta, Canada. Later they returned to Kansas and settled at Saffordville. Here the husband and father passed away, Nov 12, 1900.  Mrs. Garner came to Iola in 1912 where she continued to make her home until her death, March 15, 1929.  According to the family tree, Mrs. Garner has a remarkable ancestry, dating back to the 17th century, her great grandfather, Abraham Coffman being born June 1, 1763 and her great grandmother, Anna Coffman being born October 17, 1765 and were the parents of 15 children. Mrs. Garner is of a family of six children, her death being the first to occur in the family, whose combined ages are 433 years.  Mrs. Garner gave her heart to God at the old Mt. Pleasant Church, located near the place of her birth about the year 1885 and she continued to be an active Christian serving in the work of the church until age and declining health prevented her further activities but she remained true to her Lord and Savior until He called her from the church militant to the church triumphant, which is around the throne of God.
